How to recondition a car battery
A sound 12-volt pack — recovered or still healthy — is lights and charging when the grid drops. It is not a furnace. It is not a well pump. Treating it as whole-house heat is how people flatten a battery and still sit in the cold.
LED lights. Phone charging through a small inverter or a DC USB adapter rated for the pack. A radio. That is the same honest lane as a small homemade generator: one room, small loads, measured draw.

What a small DIY unit can actually power
A gas furnace blower start is hundreds of watts and a spike on top. A cheap power station or a car battery through a small inverter usually will not hold that. Electric heat is worse. The watt math for a commercial generator plus a legal hookup is here:
Furnace watts and startup surge
If that math fails, keep one room livable:

If the pack in the corner is sulfated flooded lead-acid and the case is sound, the replace-vs-try fork is here:
When to replace vs recondition
If you are not sure it is flooded lead-acid:
EZ Battery Reconditioning is the digital plan this site uses for sulfated flooded packs that still have a chance. Sold through ClickBank. It will not heat the house.

Can a car battery run the furnace?
Do not plan on it. Use a sized commercial generator and a legal hookup, or the one-room plan.
